At least 68 people are said to have died after a landslide engulfed a gold mining village in the Philippines almost a week ago.

Officials say 51 people are still missing after Tuesday's disaster in Davao de Oro province, but rescue workers admit there is little hope of finding more survivors.

A three-year-old girl was the last person pulled alive from the mud.
Her rescue - after more than 60 hours under the rubble and was described as "a miracle".

Landslides are a frequent hazard in much of the Philippines due to mountainous terrain, heavy rainfall, and widespread deforestation from illegal mining and logging.

Heavy monsoon rains have lashed parts of Mindanao on and off for weeks, triggering landslides and floods that have forced tens of thousands of people into emergency shelters.
The area has also been hit by a series of earthquakes, including on Saturday when rescue teams were forced to halt their operations due to a 5.9-magnitude quake./ CNA
