Iran marks the 45th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, as regional tensions

Iran marked the 45th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution on Sunday as tensions rise in the Middle East over the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas, the Palestinian group that rules Gaza, has been declared a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.

Thousands of Iranians have marched through streets and squares, draped in state flags and religious slogans.

In Tehran, crowds held flags and carried signs with the traditional chants of "Death to America" ??and "Death to Israel."

Some have burned American and Israeli flags, a common practice at Iranian pro-government marches.

According to state television, "millions of people" have marched across Iran.

The army has displayed a number of missiles, including the Qassem Soleimani and Sejjil ballistic missiles, as well as the Simorgh missile launcher, in the square of the capital, giving many residents the opportunity to take pictures near them.

During the celebrations, a paratrooper was seen with the Palestinian flag. This anniversary marks a month after the deadly attack by the extremist group Islamic State (IS) in the center of Kerman city, leaving at least 95 people dead at the memorial ceremony for General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in 2020 by a US drone.

Iran has tried to blame the United States and Israel for the attack, as the Israeli offensive in Gaza continues.

The Islamic Republic has launched missile attacks in Iraq and Syria.

Iranian missiles allegedly hit the anti-Iranian Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl in Pakistan, which has since retaliated with attacks in Iran, deepening tensions in the region fueled by the Israel-Hamas war.

During January, in a drone attack, three members of the American army were killed in Jordan, by several factions supported by Iran, known as the "Islamic Resistance". The US has held Iran responsible.

Iran, then, has threatened decisive responses to any American attack on the Islamic Republic.

The Islamic Revolution has begun with unrest throughout Iran, related to the leadership of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

Shah, ill with cancer, fled the country in January 1979.

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini then returned from exile and formed the government on February 11, 1979, a few days after mass protests and clashes between protesters and security forces./ Rel
