Yemeni missile hits Tel Aviv/ At least 16 injured

Israel's military said a rocket fired from Yemeni territory hit an area in Tel Aviv overnight, leaving 16 people lightly injured.

The sirens went off shortly before the missile hit around 4:00 a.m. Saturday, the military said.

The attack came just two days after the Israeli military bombed Yemen's capital, Sana'a, and the Houthi-controlled port city of Hodieda, killing at least nine people.

The Israeli bombings were in response to an attack by Houthi rebels on an Israeli school with a long-range missile.

Houthi rebels also said they carried out a drone strike against an unspecified military target in central Israel on Thursday.

The Israeli military says Iran-backed Houthi rebels have fired more than 200 rockets and drones during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

Houthi rebels have also attacked cargo ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden — and have vowed not to stop attacks until a ceasefire is reached in Gaza.

Israeli strikes on Thursday caused "significant damage" to Houthi-controlled Red Sea ports "that will lead to an immediate and significant reduction in port capacity," United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.

The port in Hodeida has been key to Yemen's food supplies during the decade-long civil war there.

The Secretary General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, said that the attacks of both sides risk further escalation in the region and undermine the efforts of the UN for mediation./ REL
