The Ministry of Finance, Labor and Transfers (MFPT) announced on Monday that it has taken a measure to help citizens in four Serbian-majority municipalities in the north - North Mitrovica, Leposaviq, Zveçan and Zubin Potok - find employment.

This decision was taken by the Minister of MFTP, Hekuran Murati, during a meeting with the Minister for Communities and Returns, Nenad Rashiq, and the Mayor of Leposaviq Municipality, Lulzim Hetemi, according to the Ministry.

The ministry said it will subsidize 70% of the gross salary for six consecutive months up to a maximum of 350 euros for citizens in the north, as a sign of support for their employment.

As criteria to be fulfilled in order to benefit from this measure, the Ministry emphasized that job seekers must be registered as such in the employment office in their respective municipality, be over the age of 18, and be residents of one of the four northern municipalities.

She added that the employers must also be based in one of the four northern municipalities, as well as be functioning "regularly as provided by the legislation of Kosovo".

"We remember that the support through the 'Government for Families' scheme began by subsidizing the salary for members of families who had no employees, where more than 2,600 families have benefited so far, including citizens in the four northern municipalities," she said.

However, citizens from the four northern municipalities can join the scheme regardless of whether they have any employed members or not "thus guaranteeing comprehensive and dignified employment for all".

This decision of the Ministry of Finance comes on the day when Kosovo Serbs protested in North Mitrovica against the decision of the Central Bank of Kosovo to ban the use of the dinar for cash payments.

Serbia has strongly criticized the CBK regulation, interpreting it as the goal of the Government of Kosovo to deport Serbs.
