Anti-government protests/ Iranian authorities execute one person

Iran has executed a man on charges related to anti-government protests that took place across the country earlier this year. A number of Iranian media outlets have published similar statements on their channels, identifying the individual as Abbas Akbari.

State media said he was accused of playing a significant role in suspected attacks on government offices and security centers during the unrest.

Late last year, protests erupted over economic conditions that had gripped Iran. 

Since then, the US has said tens of thousands of people were killed by the government. Regarding the execution, state media said that court hearings were held and the defendant pleaded guilty. A number of executions have been carried out in connection with the protests. /CNA
