One person has been killed and 21 others injured after a series of missile and drone attacks that Russia launched on the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, overnight.
Powerful explosions were heard across the city, while local authorities reported damage to several residential areas.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attacks affected residential buildings, schools and civilian infrastructure in almost all neighborhoods of the city.
Among the injured is a 15-year-old boy, while 13 people have been transported to the hospital.
The attack comes just days after Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed revenge on Ukraine, accusing it of an attack on the occupied town of Starobilsk. Russia claims the attack on a student dormitory killed 18 people.
On the other hand, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that it had carried out an operation near Starobilsk on Friday night, but stressed that the target was a Russian military unit and not civilians.
Tensions between the two countries continue to escalate, while fears of further major attacks on Ukrainian cities remain high./ CNA
