Visit to the "Missionaries of Charity"/ Rubio pays homage to Mother

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during a visit to the Missionaries of Charity center, paid homage to the saint and humanist Mother Teresa.

In a post on his social media, Rubio shared footage from the visit, while stating that Mother Teresa left an extraordinary legacy of compassion and service. 

"Mother Teresa left an extraordinary legacy of compassion and service. I was honored to visit the Missionaries of Charity today to pay homage to her legacy and see a living example of the Catholic faith in action," Rubio's post said.

Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950 in Calcutta, a Catholic congregation that in 2012 had more than 4,500 sisters and was active in 133 countries. They provided homes for people infected with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis; provided food, mobile clinics, counseling programs for children and families, orphanages, and schools. Members must adhere to vows of "chastity, poverty and obedience," as well as a fourth condition, to provide "free and wholehearted service to the poorest of the poor." /CNA
