The Prosecutor's Office in Montenegro investigates the way of life of

The Special Prosecutor's Office of the State of Montenegro is currently working on four cases, in which the way of life of some officials is investigated, namely the discrepancy between their income and the luxurious life they lead.

"In all cases, criminal cases have been created, which are in the investigation phase", the prosecutor's office told Radio Free Europe and added that they were preceded by a notification from the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption.

By the end of 2020, this agency has compared officials' wealth data with available databases and found some discrepancies between the income and wealth they reported.

This step was taken on his own initiative, since the current Law on the Prevention of Corruption in Montenegro does not have this legal norm. It is part of a new law, which is still in draft form.

"Monitoring the way of life includes the comparison of declared income and assets, in relation to the consumption, residence and property of public officials, spouses and children", says this draft.

And, precisely the way of life is the focus of four cases that are under the observation of the Special Prosecution - two of which are related to former Government ministers, one to a policeman and one to a responsible person from the non-governmental sector.

The property of the family members of the former Minister of Police

The family of the former MN public official is one of those under prosecutorial surveillance.

"On May 10, 2022, the Agency [for the Prevention of Corruption] submitted a notification to the prosecutor's office, stating that certain family members of the former MN public official are owners of real estate, which does not correspond to their real income ", announced the Special Prosecutor's Office.

It was unofficially confirmed to Radio Evropa e Lire in Podgorica that it is Mevludin Nuhoxhiqi, former Minister of Internal Affairs, now deputy of the Democratic Party of Socialists, which is led by Millo Djukanovic.

In the case of the members of the Nuhoxhiq family, the Special Prosecutor's Office established "the existence of grounds for suspicion" of misuse of official duties.

"Information, data and evidence have been collected by the Cadastre Administration of Budva, Zhablak and Podgorica. Through the police, information was also obtained from MN and his daughters. The police have received the order to carry out checks through [the international police agency] INTERPOL and collect the necessary evidence", says the Special Prosecutor's Office.

In Nuhod?i?'s wealth report, which can be found on the website of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, there is no information about the wealth of his daughters, because, according to the existing law, public officials are not obliged to declare the wealth of children who do not live with them.

The agency, on several occasions in the past years, has said that Nuhod?i? has violated the Law on the Prevention of Corruption, by not declaring his full wealth.

Në nëntor të vitit 2022, Agjencia për Parandalimin e Korrupsionit ka hetuar edhe mënyrën e jetesës së Llidija Gjukanoviqit, bashkëshortes së presidentit në largim të Malit të Zi, Millo Gjukanoviq, për shkak të rrobave të shtrenjta, me të cilat shfaqet në publik, konfirmojnë nga kjo agjenci për REL-in.

“Gjatë verifikimit të pasurisë dhe të hyrave të zyrtarit publik, Millo Gjukanoviq, nuk janë konstatuar parregullsi që do të çonin në inicimin e ndonjë procedure në kompetencë të Agjencisë për Parandalimin e Korrupsionit”, thuhet në deklaratë.

Sipas të dhënave të disponueshme në ueb-faqen e kësaj agjencie, Llidija Gjukanoviq, asokohe, ka pasur të ardhura mujore prej rreth 925 eurosh, ndërsa rroga e Gjukanoviqit ka qenë 2.202 euro.
