South Korean police claim responsibility for Halloween tragedy

South Korea's police chief, Yoon Hee-keun, has admitted that police officials did not act adequately in the October 29 incident, in which hundreds of people died as a result of the crackdown.

This was the first time that officials have admitted that they did not do enough to prevent the incident, which left 155 people dead and 152 others injured.

According to Yoon, the Police's response was "disappointing" and that he felt "boundless responsibility for public safety" regarding what happened and pledged a full investigation.

The incident happened on Saturday evening after a large number of people gathered in a neighborhood of Seoul to celebrate Halloween.

This was the first time that this holiday was marked without restrictions against the coronavirus.

Yoon said that the Police received several calls before the accident, warning that the situation was serious, but there was no response.

He made these comments while the public's demand for accountability is increasing./REL
