For the first time, Melania Trump will chair a UN Security Council meeting

US First Lady Melania Trump will chair a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Monday, as the United States assumes the rotating presidency of the UN's highest body.

This is what the White House has declared, and this will be the first time that a serving US First Lady chairs the 15-member body. 

President Donald Trump has been a fierce critic of the United Nations since his first term in the White House, accusing the 198-member world body of being ineffective and in need of reform.

Trump struck a more subdued tone last week at the first meeting of the "Peace Board," an initiative he said aims to resolve conflicts around the world but that many world leaders have not embraced due to concerns that it is designed to replace the United Nations. /CNA
