On Tuesday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said a 200 billion euro energy support plan was justified. He added that similar measures are being taken in other countries.
The "shield" includes a gas price curb and a fuel sales tax cut. It aims to protect businesses and households from the impact of rising energy prices.
"The measures we are taking are not unique, but they are being taken elsewhere, and rightly so," Chancellor Olaf Scholz said at a press conference in Berlin, on the occasion of the visit of his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte.

Megjithatë, tha a: "Jam i sigurt se do të arrijmë një marrëveshje”.
Opponents of the package say it will unfairly affect competition in the single market by favoring German companies.
EU internal market commissioners Thierry Breton and economy Paolo Gentiloni, from France and Italy respectively, said the German plan "raises questions" about whether it is fair. They demanded that a measure be taken in the EU to help all countries.
The European Commission, which oversees competition policy across the EU, said on Monday it was discussing the package with Berlin.
"We are fully committed to maintaining a level playing field and a single market, and to avoiding harmful subsidy competition," a Commission spokesman told a press conference./DW
