The number of refugees in Germany reaches 3.5 million people

Today, more refugees live in Germany than ever before. According to the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung newspaper, which cites the German government's response to a question from the Left Party, at the end of the first half of 2024 there were about 3.48 million refugees in Germany. According to this figure, there will be 60,000 more refugees living in Germany in 2024 than at the end of 2023. This is the highest number since the 1950s.

Due to deportations and departures, the number of people in Germany who are forced to leave the country is decreasing, the report continues. In mid-2024, statistics recorded 226,882 people forced to leave Germany, 15,760 less than at the end of 2023.
