Protests in Belgrade do not stop / Thousands of students and teachers fill the

Protests continue in Belgrade. Thousands of students and teachers have gathered to protest under the slogan Teachers are with the students, calling for a general strike in Serbia.

Numerous educational institutions across Serbia have suspended classes today as a form of support and solidarity with student protests to meet their demands, as well as those of professors.

The head of the Independent Trade Union of Education Workers of Serbia, Dušan Kokot, said that classes have been boycotted in 50 percent of schools.

In larger cities, classes have been boycotted in almost 80% of schools.

"We showed courage in facing the threats," Kokot said.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vu?evi?, said that starting tomorrow, education inspectors will go to schools where classes have been suspended in violation of the law.

Vucevic called on teachers and parents not to poison schools with politics.

"We have a parliament, we have squares, we have media, we talk about politics," Vu?evi? told Tanjug news agency, adding: "Politicians have no place among children."

Following the death of 15 people from the collapse of part of the roof of the Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1, student protests began in Serbia, demanding that the authorities be held accountable.

The protests were joined by professors and teachers from Belgrade universities and schools.

They have demanded that all documentation on the reconstruction of the railway station in Novi Sad be disclosed, that charges against students, activists and citizens arrested and detained in previous protests be dropped, and that criminal charges be filed against the attackers of the demonstrators./ CNA
