Car crashed into crowd of people/ Chinese justice executes two people

China has executed a man found guilty of killing at least 35 people in a car attack in November, in what is believed to be the deadliest attack in the country in a decade.

Fan Weiqiu, 62, injured dozens of others when he drove his car into a crowd of people exercising outside a stadium in the southern city of Zhuhai. Authorities said Fan was motivated by "discontent" over the way his property had been divided following a divorce.

But Fan was not the only one executed by Chinese justice, as a 21-year-old also did not escape the extreme decision.

Xu Jiajin, 21, killed eight people in a knife attack at his university in the eastern city of Wuxi. Xu carried out his attack after failing to receive his degree due to poor exam results.

Human rights groups believe China is the world's leading executioner, killing thousands of people each year. The country does not provide details about its use of the death penalty, so reliable figures are not available. /CNA
