Biden pardons family members / President Trump, harsh criticism

President Trump, during an executive order signing ceremony at the White House, criticized President Biden's decision to pardon members of his family who are not under investigation.

President Trump, who made the comments minutes after signing an executive order to pardon about 1,500 people charged with criminal offenses related to the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, said that President Biden's pardon of family members implies that they may have been guilty.

On Monday, President Biden pardoned members of his family who are not under investigation, including his brother, James Biden; James Biden's wife, Sara Biden; his sister, Valerie Biden Owens; Valerie's husband, John Owens; and his brother, Francis Biden. The decision protects them from facing future investigations or charges.

“My family has been subjected to relentless attacks and threats, motivated only by a desire to harm me, the worst kind of partisan politics. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe that these attacks will stop,” Mr. Biden said in a statement. “The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken for an admission of guilt and should not be misinterpreted as an admission of guilt for any offense.”
