An Albanian is running for Mayor of Zurich/ Avdili: I want the city to continue

An Albanian is the candidate in this race for the Mayor of Zurich. Përparim Avdili has been nominated as a candidate for mayor of Zurich in Switzerland by the Executive Board of the FDP Party.

In a presentation of his candidacy, also posted on social networks, Avdili talks about his childhood in Zurich, his immigrant family of Albanian origin, and his vision for the position he aims for.

"I grew up in Zurich, the child of an immigrant family. I went to school in Altstetten and Albisrieden and I still play football regularly with my friends in the neighborhood. Every now and then, we even watch a football match in Letzigrund. Admittedly, with a slight preference for the city club.

After completing my commercial training, I started my career in the financial center of Zurich. Today, I am the Financial Director of the non-profit training company libs, located in North Zurich, where we support 1,500 apprentices in the mechanical, electrical and metal industries in their careers.

I love what I do and I love this city. And I have deep roots here. The city has been just administrated for years. Without courage. Without color. Without soul. I want Zurich to continue to develop. For Zurich to finally be perceived as a metropolis. Therefore, I want a city that has a sense of purpose. An end to the administrative way of the last years. If we want to be relevant, we need to be visible and audible. Visible and audible as a cosmopolitan, diverse, creative and courageous city. This requires leadership – with vision, empathy and enthusiasm”, - Avdili writes./CNA
