Mother and daughter die after ambulance plane crashes in Pennsylvania

An air ambulance carrying a patient, her mother and four crew members crashed in Philadelphia on Friday about 30 seconds after taking off. Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, which operated the Learjet 55, said in a statement that it “could not confirm any survivors.” All six people on board were from Mexico.

The plane burst into flames, damaging several homes at a busy intersection in the city. Authorities say at least six people were injured in the area where the plane crashed. Three of them have been released from the hospital.

The company "Jet Rescue Air Ambulance", based in Mexico and licensed to operate in the United States, said that there were 4 crew members, a patient and her mother on board.

The patient had come from Mexico to be treated for a life-threatening illness and was being transported home. The plane's destination was the city of Tijuana in Mexico.

The explosion occurred less than 5 kilometers from the northeast Philadelphia airport, which serves mainly business jets.

The Learjet 55 disappeared from radar shortly after taking off from the airport at 6:06 p.m. and reaching an altitude of 1,500 feet. The plane was en route to the city of Springfield, Missouri, where it was scheduled to refuel.

"All we heard was a loud bang and we didn't know where it was coming from. Then we saw this big plume of smoke," said Jim Quinn, a resident of a neighborhood near the crash site. The crash comes two days after the country's deadliest aviation disaster in nearly 25 years. An American Airlines plane carrying 60 passengers and four crew members collided in midair Wednesday night in Washington with a U.S. Army helicopter with three soldiers on board.
