NATO agrees to make defense of Ukraine's infrastructure a priority

NATO member countries have agreed to make the defense of Ukraine's infrastructure a high priority, the head of the military alliance, Mark Rutte, said on Wednesday.

Russia is relentlessly bombing Ukrainian cities and towns with missiles and drones.

Speaking to reporters before the second day of the meeting of foreign ministers of the 32 NATO member countries, Rutte said during the meeting there was talk of giving Ukraine enough air defense systems so that it can protect its own infrastructure. from Russian attacks.

"There was clear agreement last night that supporting Ukraine, especially for its infrastructure, should be a priority," Rutte said. "I believe that the allies will make sure in the coming days and weeks that they will supply Ukraine with whatever they can supply," he said.

This is the third winter in a row that Russia has attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure, causing casualties and disrupting power supplies to thousands of civilians.

On Wednesday morning, Russian drones attacked the northern Chernihiv region, damaging several houses in a village, regional governor Vyacheslav Chaus said on Telegram.

In the central region of Vinnytsya, debris from a downed drone caused a fire in a house in the Haisin district, partially destroying it, the Emergency Service of Ukraine said.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia used a missile and 50 drones against targets in Ukraine.

Ukraine's air defense shot down 29 drones in nine regions – Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Mykolaiv and Donetsk, it said. Meanwhile, powerful explosions were reported overnight in the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiisk, which is one of the main hubs for Russian oil exports and an important military port for part of the Russian Black Sea fleet.

Air sirens went off in the area and Novorossiysk Mayor Andrei Kravchenko called on residents to take shelter because of a drone strike.

Neither Ukraine nor Russia have yet commented on the explosions./ Rel
