The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro has decided to urgently deal with the problem of falsified diplomas, which has been a matter of concern for the country for months. Minister Angjela Jakši? Stojanovi? announced the establishment of a working group at the Ministry that will deal with the review of all certified diplomas. She admits that this will be a difficult job, therefore she emphasizes the need for cooperation and coordination with other bodies, judicial authorities and the prosecution.

On the other hand, representatives from the Alternative Civil Society of Montenegro, according to whom there are currently 25,000 to 30,000 fake diplomas, think that the activities announced by the Ministry of Education will fail. The only solution, they say, is to change the Law on the Acceptance of Diplomas. During this year, 27 criminal charges were filed for forgery of diplomas, but as it is said, their number is much greater. At the moment, over 5,000 diplomas are waiting to be certified. According to representatives of the civil sector, the biggest problem remains falsified diplomas in the health sector, in education and in public administration.
The case at the Institute of Public Health, where the deputy director worked for 11 years with a forged diploma, deeply shocked public opinion, while it is said that faculty professors, politicians and high officials have forged diplomas. The Alternative Civil Society, which is the loudest in all this activity, says that these degrees mostly come from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska. At the same time, connoisseurs of political situations do not exclude the possibility that this goes through some well-organized criminal group not only in Montenegro, but also in the region./ DW
