Lebanon: 29 people have been killed by Israeli attacks

Lebanon said Israeli airstrikes killed 29 people across the country on November 12, including people displaced by the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the militant group and political party that controls most of southern Lebanon.

The attacks have targeted not only Hezbollah strongholds, such as those on the outskirts of Beirut, but also areas where the Iranian-backed group has traditionally had no presence.

Lebanon's Health Ministry said at least 12 people were killed and eight others wounded in a town south of Beirut.

Lebanon's state-run news agency said the building that was targeted was housing people fleeing Israeli bombings in the war against Hezbollah.

Hezbollah is a terrorist group declared by the United States, while the European Union has blacklisted the military wing, but not the political group of the group. The Hezbollah party has seats in the Lebanese Parliament.

The Ministry of Health said that a few kilometers further south, in the Alej region, eight more people were killed.

In southern Lebanon, the Ministry of Health reported attacks in Tefahta and Rumin, where seven people were killed.

According to the Lebanese authorities, Israel has also carried out attacks in the Hermel region, in the Bekaa Valley in the east, which is located on the border with Syria, killing two more people.

Also, Nabatieh, the largest city in southern Lebanon, was the target of Israeli attacks.

Hezbollah, meanwhile, said it fired missiles at an air base near Tel Aviv after Israel carried out a wave of attacks in Beirut.

Israel has reported two victims as a result of attacks from Lebanon.

Since September 23, Israel has intensified airstrikes in Lebanon, mainly hitting Hezbollah strongholds south of Beirut and in the east and south of the country. On September 30, Israel launched a ground offensive in Lebanon.

Israel carried out dozens of airstrikes south of Beirut on Tuesday morning, state media said, as the Israeli military warned residents in four districts to evacuate.

The Israeli military said it struck "Hezbollah terrorist targets" south of Beirut, including "command centers, weapons production sites and other Hezbollah infrastructure".

The escalation of the conflict in Lebanon comes after Israel and Hezbollah exchanged fire on the border for almost a year, following the launch of the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas - the Palestinian group designated as a terrorist organization by the US and the EU - on October 7, 2023. .

More than 3,300 people have been killed in Lebanon since the fighting began, according to the Health Ministry. Most of the victims, according to this ministry, have been registered since the end of September./ REL
