Lavrov compares the US to Hitler and Napoleon

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has often proved that he expresses himself in very clear words. The Russian foreign minister accused the Western defense alliance NATO of leading a "crusade to destroy Russia and divide the world".

In his latest press conference, Wednesday morning in Moscow, he sharply attacked official Washington. Ultimately, the US is responsible for the war in Ukraine, he said. What is happening there is the result of American preparations for a hybrid war between the United States and Russia. The crisis in Ukraine began long before Moscow invaded the neighboring country in February.

In this regard, Sergey Lavrov compared the recent actions of Washington with the actions of Adolf Hitler and Napoleon Bonaparte. The USA has also subjugated Europe to wage war against Moscow. Referring to the ethnic Russian population in Ukraine, the minister said their "humiliation" there was unacceptable.

According to Lavrov, there are currently no serious peace proposals on the table to end the war. The ideas of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky cannot be discussed. Among other things, the leadership in Kiev demands the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory and the payment of reparations for the destruction caused by the Russian army.

Russia has repeatedly made it clear that Moscow believes a peace treaty can only be reached if Ukraine recognizes the annexations of the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea and the regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia. Ukraine has categorically opposed these demands and claims that it will continue the war until the liberation of the country./DW
