UN Security Council approves Trump's Gaza plan

The UN Security Council has voted in favor of a US-drafted resolution endorsing US President Donald Trump's 20-point plan for Gaza. The plan includes the creation of an International Stabilization Force (ISF), to which the US says many unidentified countries have offered to contribute.

The resolution was supported by 13 countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Somalia, and none voted against the proposal. Meanwhile, Russia and China abstained in the voting process. The adoption of the resolution was an important step in consolidating the ceasefire, said a spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Hamas has rejected the resolution, saying it does not meet the rights and demands of the Palestinians. The armed Palestinian group wrote on Telegram after the resolution was passed that the plan imposes an international guardianship mechanism on the Gaza Strip, which their people and their factions reject.

"Assigning the international force with tasks and roles inside the Gaza Strip, including disarming the resistance, strips it of its neutrality and turns it into a party to the conflict in favor of the occupation," the statement said, among other things.

According to the resolution, the ISF Security Forces will cooperate with Israel and Egypt, along with a trained and vetted Palestinian police force, to help secure border areas and ensure the process of permanent disarmament of non-state armed groups, including Hamas.

Mike Waltz, the US ambassador to the UN, told the council that the ISF Security Forces would be tasked with securing the area, supporting the demilitarization of Gaza, dismantling terrorist infrastructure, removing weapons and ensuring the safety of Palestinian civilians.

The Security Council also approved the creation of a transitional governing body called the Board of Peace (BoP), which would oversee the governance of a technocratic and apolitical Palestinian committee and oversee the reconstruction of Gaza and the distribution of humanitarian aid.

Trump called the Security Council vote historic and said it was a way to recognize and support the Security Board, with final membership to be announced soon.

“This will be remembered as one of the greatest ratifications in the history of the United Nations, will lead to further peace throughout the world, and is a moment of truly historic proportions!” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
