Some deputies of the Democratic Union for Integration in North Macedonia have received anonymous threatening messages via e-mail. While the author is known, the Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi, has reacted today, who strongly condemns this act, as he states in a communique that he condemns any form of threat, attempt at violence or incitement to violence.

"Deputies are elected directly by citizens and freedom of speech is inviolable. Anonymity in sending such messages or on social networks can give the threat a sense of impunity, but we must accept that our institutions are active and capable", emphasizes Mr. Gashi.

The police authorities have confirmed the notification about the threat to DUI lawmakers, but without providing other details. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced that the Unit for Economic and Computer Crime has been notified of the case and that measures are being taken to clear it up. It is learned that the threats were made on July 23.

DUI itself has called the threats a direct attack on democratic values ??and institutions in the country.

"These incidents prove the level of impatience and hatred that is spreading in our society", says a reaction of the Albanian opposition party in North Macedonia.

The Albanian party estimates that a premeditated campaign is being carried out to blackmail and threaten DUI and that this campaign, according to it, aims to hide the mistakes of the new government.

"With imagined accusations and violent actions, they are trying to distract the attention of the public opinion from the real problems and the disastrous results of government policies", it is further stated in the reaction of the Democratic Union for Integration./ VOA
