Iran is expected to be excluded from a UN women's commission

Iran looks set to be excluded from a United Nations women's commission because of the country's controversial policies on women's and girls' rights.

But some states are expected to abstain during Wednesday's vote, which was initiated by the United States, diplomats said.

All 54 member states of the UN Economic and Social Council will vote on the draft resolution to "immediately remove the Islamic Republic from the Commission on the Status of Women for the 2022-2026 mandate."

Iran has blamed foreign enemies and their agents for the unrest.
