Kurti: This week we will submit the EU membership application

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that during this week, the authorities will submit the application for membership in the European Union.

"As you know, we are the last country in the Western Balkans that is applying for the European Union, even though we are the first country in this region for the rule of law, freedom and democracy", Kurti said during the Government meeting held on December 13.

According to him, the time has come for the potential candidate status, "which was known to us a long time ago, to officially turn it into a candidate status, moving to a new phase of relations with the European Union".

Më herët gjatë këtij viti, Kosova ka treguar se po përgatitet të aplikojë për anëtarësim në BE.

"BE-ja është vend i paqes, sigurisë, barazisë dhe prosperitetit, andaj edhe Kosova e ka vendin natyrshëm në këtë shtëpi të përbashkët si një vend paqedashës e demokratik", tha Kurti.

Kosova deri më tani ka vetëm një marrëveshje kontraktuale me BE-në, përkatësisht Marrëveshjen e Stabilizim Asocimit.

Nga 27 shtetet anëtare të bllokut, pesë prej tyre ende nuk e njohin pavarësinë e Kosovës. Shtetet mosnjohëse janë: Spanja, Rumania, Qiproja, Greqia dhe Sllovakia.

Nga shtetet e rajonit të Ballkanit Perëndimor, Serbia dhe Mali i Zi janë dy shtetet që kanë bërë më shumë përparim drejt anëtarësimit në bllok, pasi deri më tani kanë hapur disa kapituj në bisedimet për anëtarësim.

North Macedonia and Albania this year started the negotiation process, while Bosnia and Herzegovina is expected to receive the status of a candidate country this week. Kosovo is also the only country that does not have visa liberalization with the EU./REL
