IKSHPK: The water of Lake Badoc should not be used for drinking

The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (IKSHPK) has recommended that the water from Lake Badoc not be used for drinking, but only for cleaning.

This is because, once again, in the analysis of the samples taken from this lake, elevated levels of manganese were observed.

Even last year, IKSHPK had recommended not to use the water of Badoc for drinking, due to the increase in manganese values.

This institute said that the appearance of the "phenomenon" of manganese in Badoc is a continuous phenomenon, which occurs "mainly at the time of the change of seasons".

"The data of the analyzes made and their comparison with the data of the previous days, as well as the experience from the situation of 2023, show us that during the duration of this phenomenon, the manganese values ??have a tendency to continuously increase day by day, therefore IKSHPK for this period recommends that water not be consumed for drinking and used as technical water for personal and environmental hygiene", said IKSHPK.

IKSHPK has published a map of the areas that are supplied with drinking water from Lake Badoc. Among them are several neighborhoods of Pristina, such as Matiqani, Aktashi, Bregu i Djelli, the hospital neighborhood, but also Graçanica. The institute said that despite the fact that manganese is considered an essential nutrient and contributes to many body functions, its high values ??in drinking water can have a harmful impact on health, "especially in children up to 5 years old". IKSHPK has also asked the regional water supply company "Prishtina" to control the water disinfection process, monitor the state of organic pollution and clean the distribution network, i.e. the pipes./ Rel
