Police officers entered an apartment in Neos Kosmos, Greece, where they were confronted with a nearly thriller-like case.

A man and a woman were found dead, the woman in an advanced state of decomposition and with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The man, 64, was found with a gunshot wound. The gun was found near the dead couple, as well as two shell casings.

According to initial information, authorities believe there is a time gap between the two deaths.

Specifically, it is suspected that the woman was killed first and after some time the man committed suicide. The investigation is at an early stage and a forensic expert is expected at the scene to determine exactly what happened.

What do the couple's neighbors say?

The strong smell coming from the couple's apartment prompted neighbors to notify the police.

"There was a light that hadn't been turned off for days. On Monday it started to smell strongly and we thought maybe something had happened to them. My husband notified the manager and he called the police and they found them. The wife didn't go out much, only the husband. I didn't realize she was sick. They say the husband killed the wife and then committed suicide," said a neighbor of the couple.

Another woman who lives in the area said: "From what we know, there was a couple living on the fourth floor. The man was in his 70s, while his wife was very sick and he was very sad."/ CNA, translated by Protothema
