Russian shelling kills four people in Kherson

At least four people have been killed and nine others wounded during Russian shelling in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, regional authorities said on December 24.

Russian forces have launched 71 grenades in Kherson, hitting the city center, residential areas, health and educational institutions and "critical infrastructure buildings," the head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, wrote in "Telegram".

Prokudin said a couple in their 80s and a child were among the victims.

Ukrainian forces have taken control of Kherson, after it was under Russian occupation for several months last year, but Russian forces continue to shell the area.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Air Force said it had destroyed 14 of the 15 drones launched by Russia overnight.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian army, meanwhile, said that in the last 24 hours there have been 81 military clashes, claiming that Ukrainian troops have repelled 17 Russian attacks in the Kharkiv region and 11 attacks near Bakhmut, in the Donetsk region.

Russia launched the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February of last year./ REL
