France on Tuesday froze the assets of the head of the Palestinian extremist group, Hamas, in Gaza.

Yahya Sinwar has become the latest leader of the group that has been declared a terrorist organization by the United States of America and the European Union, which has been added to the French sanctions list, according to a decree published in the official newspaper of France.

On November 13, France also imposed national sanctions on the military commander of Hamas, Mohammed Deif, and his deputy, Marwan Issa.

France is also working with partners to impose sanctions on the figures of the radical Palestinian group and its funding network at the level of the European Union, several diplomats have said, Reuters reports.

Hamas has sparked war with Israel by carrying out deadly attacks in southern Israel on October 7, during which the Palestinian group's fighters killed nearly 1,200 people and took 240 hostages.

Since then, Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed more than 15,000 Palestinians — almost two-thirds of the victims are women and children, according to the Health Ministry in Hamas-controlled Gaza.

Over three-quarters of the population of this territory have been displaced from their homes due to Israeli bombings and ground attacks, which created a humanitarian crisis./ REL
