The ruling party of the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and his nationalist allies, have also officially run for the May 14 parliamentary and presidential elections, with the aim of winning another term in power.

This decision has fueled heated debates about whether the constitution allows Erdogan a third term.

"Legally it is impossible for Erdogan to run again" , said the opposition politician, Idris Sahin, on Tuesday, adding that his DEVA party will appeal Erdogan's candidacy.
