USA: Xi Jinping to pressure Putin on war crimes in Ukraine

"Chinese President Xi Jinping should pressure Vladimir Putin to "stop war crimes" in Ukraine". This was the request from the US.  

Putin and Jinping will meet again today for official talks during their first visit to Moscow since the invasion.

The spokesman for the White House National Security Council called on Xi to ask his Russian counterpart to withdraw troops from Ukraine.

John Kirby said asking for a ceasefire would not be enough.

“Ne shpresojmë që presidenti Xi do të bëjë presion ndaj Presidentit Putin që të ndalojë bombardimet e qyteteve, spitaleve dhe shkollave të Ukrainës, të ndalojë krimet e luftës dhe mizoritë dhe të tërheqë trupat e tij”, tha ai.

"Por ne jemi të shqetësuar se në vend të kësaj Kina do të përsërisë thirrjet për një armëpushim që i lë forcat ruse brenda territorit sovran të Ukrainës dhe çdo armëpushim që nuk adreson largimin e forcave ruse nga Ukraina do të ratifikonte në mënyrë efektive pushtimet e paligjshme të Rusisë."

Putin ka thënë se do të diskutojë një plan prej 12 pikash të propozuar nga Xi për të "zgjidhur krizën akute në Ukrainë".

China released its plan to end the war last month, which includes a "cessation of hostilities" and the resumption of peace talks.

China's plan did not specifically say that Russia should withdraw from Ukraine, which Ukraine has insisted is a prerequisite for any talks.

Instead, he spoke of "respecting the sovereignty of all countries," adding that "all parties must remain rational and exercise restraint" and "gradually de-escalate the situation."

The plan also condemned the use of "unilateral sanctions", seen as a veiled criticism of Ukraine's allies in the West./ CNA.al
