The EU criticizes Serbia for cooperation with Russia

The European Union told Serbia that maintaining relations with Russia at a time when Moscow is continuing its aggression against Ukraine is not in line with the bloc's values ??and the membership process.

This reaction from Brussels follows a meeting between Serbian Deputy Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vulin, with Kremlin officials in Moscow and allegations of intelligence cooperation with Russia.

"The EU has been clear with our partners: relations with Russia cannot be normal after Russia's unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine," the European bloc said in a response sent to Radio Free Europe on August 15.

The EU also said that "we want to consider all candidate states as reliable European partners with common principles, values, security and prosperity".

Vulin, according to the announcement of the Government of Serbia, has thanked the Russian security structures for the "warning regarding the planning of mass riots and a coup attempt" in Serbia.

With the secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergei Shoigu, in Moscow, Vulin discussed the "active participation of foreign forces in artificially inciting tensions".

The Serbian government described the protest against lithium mining as an "attempted coup". In recent weeks, tens of thousands of people have protested in Belgrade and other Serbian cities.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has accused the Western countries of being behind the protests.

On August 11, before the protest in Belgrade, Vu?i? also stated that the warnings from the Russian services said that in Serbia "massive riots are being planned, with the main goal of a coup d'état and the overthrow of the state leadership".

This protest passed without major incidents./ REL
