Thousands of supporters of right-wing candidate C?lin Georgescu have protested in the streets of Romania against the cancellation of the country's presidential elections.
Romania is facing election turmoil after the first round of elections was canceled due to reports of Russian interference. According to foreign media, protesters outside the Constitutional Court in Bucharest are also demanding the resignation of current president Klaus Iohannis.
Georgescu won the first round of presidential elections in late November, but the Constitutional Court declared the result invalid in early December after finding that voters had been manipulated through illegal preferential treatment of a candidate on social media.
New elections are scheduled for May 4, with a possible runoff on May 18.
Georgescu has also filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg to have the election annulled, while attempts to pursue the legal route in Romania have been unsuccessful, however, an appeal to the Supreme Court remains an open possibility.
