Lebanon's former army chief Joseph Aoun, whose election today ended more than two years of presidential vacuum, makes an early dig at Hezbollah, saying he will defend the state's right to exclusively weapon.

"I promise to call for the discussion of a comprehensive defense strategy, as part of a national security strategy, at the diplomatic, economic and military levels to enable the Lebanese state - I repeat the Lebanese state - to lift the Israeli occupation and prevent his aggression."

Hezbollah has long argued that its weapons arsenal and military wing are needed to protect Lebanon from Israel.
