Criminal charges against Trump/Nancy Pelosi: No one is above the law

US President Joe Biden has not commented on the indictment of Donald Trump, but there was a reaction from Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, one of Trump's critics.

In a tweet, Pelosi wrote that no one is above the law and everyone has the right to prove their innocence before a trial.

 "No one is above the law and everyone has the right to a trial to prove their innocence," Pelosi wrote, BBC reports.

"We hope the former president will peacefully respect the system, which gives him that right," she said, adding that the grand jury that voted to indict acted according to the facts and the law.

Representative Adam Schiff, who presided over Trump's first impeachment trial and is also running for the California Senate, tweeted:

"A legal nation must hold the rich and the powerful accountable, even when they hold high positions. Acting otherwise is not democracy", writes Schiff./ CNA.al
