An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 hit the province of Florence at 05:10.

The epicenter was 3 km south-west of the municipality of Marradi, in Mugello.

The tremors were felt in Florence, but also throughout the region and in Emilia-Romagna and Marche.

According to the Italian media, there is no material or human damage, but it is learned that hundreds of citizens have come out into the streets after the earthquake and have started the checks of the Civil Defense.

"There is a lot of concern, a lot of people on the streets, but there are no reports of damage," the mayor of Marradi, Tommaso Triberti, told Raineës24.

As a precautionary measure, today in Marradi schools of all levels will remain closed.  

"After the earthquake and the continuation of the seismic vibrations, the closure of schools of all levels in the municipality of Firenzuola has been ordered for today", the mayor of Firenzuola Giampaolo Buti announced.

The earthquake caused panic among the citizens, who rushed through the streets of the city./ CNA
