As Albania has become an attractive destination for foreigners, it seems that Albanians, on the other hand, are increasingly preferring to explore destinations outside the borders.

The weak growth of local visitors in accommodation structures during October with a modest figure of less than 1 percent is actually a reflection of a constant behavior this year where the exits are increasing in double digits especially during the beginning of the year and spring. At the same time, the drop in attitudes shows the same trend.

Specifically, the latest figures pertaining to the month of October 2024 show that the departures of Albanian citizens were over 624 thousand with a 12 percent increase compared to October 2023. Meanwhile, from January to October the departures registered a level of 6.6 million or 14.7 percent more than the same period of the previous year.

Such behavior does not come by chance in the conditions where the number of low-cost lines has been increasing in the country in recent years, while flight destinations have also been continuously increasing. Operating with several flights during the day, even for some destinations, has made traveling on weekends attractive, thus creating flexibility for those who want to break away from Albania even for a little while.

The exits of the locals increased this year even during the self-promotion, especially as a reaction to an unjustified increase in prices in some regions of the country, something that created dissatisfaction and rejection, which, although it was quickly corrected, did not manage to eliminate the effect of abandonment even by the locals .

July and August are the months with the record number of exits, namely 704 thousand and 901 thousand with an increase of 1.7 percent and 9.2 percent compared to September and August last year. The destinations chosen mainly by Albanians during this year, at least during the summer, were especially Greece, Turkey, but also other destinations such as Italy./ Monitor Magazine
