July-September, over 1 million vehicles in the country, dominated by used

Vehicle imports into our country are growing rapidly, especially for cars.

But the latest official data from INSTAT shows that the increase in imports is going mostly to used cars rather than new ones, a bad signal for environmental pollution.

Although the import of electric cars is growing, the market and new imports are dominated by used vehicles.

In the third quarter of 2025, the number of road vehicles in circulation in the territory of Albania was 1,025,981. The total number of vehicles increased by 9.2%.

New registrations have increased by 1.6%. In vehicles registered for the first time, Volkswagen holds the first place with 19.8%, followed by Mercedes Benz with 17.0%.

Among them, cars account for 80.8% of total vehicles, followed by motorcycles with 6.0% and mixed transport vehicles with 5.9%.

Tirana accounts for the largest share with 34.7% of total assets, followed by Durrës with 13.6%.

Meanwhile, Gjirokastra and Kukës have the lowest number of vehicles, with 2.2% and 2.4%, respectively.

During this quarter, 26,614 vehicles were registered for the first time, of which 82.3% were cars. Once again, the Tirana region leads with 39.5% of new registrations.

In our country, the import of new cars with 0 km and that have not been previously registered for circulation in another country and all other motor vehicles with 0 km is allowed.

Other used motor vehicles such as: Buses and Vehicles for public transport, all those that are not 0 km and that have been previously registered for road traffic in another country, which meet the EURO 3 standard and must have been manufactured no more than 15 years before the date of first registration in Albania.

The data shows the growing trend of electric vehicles and their positive impact on reducing pollution, but they are still at least in number compared to the total fleet of vehicles registered in our country./ Monitor
