DP has returned to the toxic waste scandal, emphasizing that even though Prime Minister Edi Rama denies it, Albania is involved in the international traffic of dangerous substances.

The spokeswoman of Anticorruption at the blue headquarters, Genta Vangjeli, has stated that it is about 20 thousand tons of waste transported to Asia.

Vangjeli has shown why the Sokolaj company and the state authorities are involved in this traffic.

"The Minister of the Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, has made available the relevant documents and informed the CM, but this situation is hidden from the public in order to protect the traffic of hazardous waste.

Two weeks after the publication of the scandal, Minister Kumbaro ordered the "Verification of entities that generate industrial waste", where 26 entities were checked.

From the control of the Sokolaj company, it turned out that it is not 816 tons, but this company exported from the Port of Durrës a full 20 thousand tons of dangerous substances that disappeared without destination, and of unknown origin, for which the Sokolaj company claims to have received from Kurum.

In confirmation of the inspection ordered by Minister Kumbaro, the Ministry of Environment gave another detail, which added to the doubts about the origin of 20 thousand tons of hazardous waste.

It turned out that the Kurum company did not have an active contract for the transfer of hazardous waste, so it was fined 1.5 million lek, and the transfer activity was suspended until a contract was concluded. 

This finding in the Kurum Company confirms that not only the 816 tons destined for Thailand, but also the 20,000 tons exported by Sokolaj, could not have been taken to Kurum, as long as there is no agreement between the two companies.
