Murder of Judge Kalaja/ Prosecutor General: Has fundamentally violated the functioning of the rule of law

Prosecutor General Olsian Çela has reacted to the murder that occurred today at the Court of Appeal, where judge Astrit Kalaja was killed. The prosecutor described the incident as very serious, while stating that it also fundamentally undermines the functioning of the rule of law.

Çela called on everyone to be aware and contribute to strengthening the security of magistrates. He asked the Tirana Prosecutor's Office to conduct a rapid and thorough investigation of the incident in cooperation with the State Police. 

Reaction of the Prosecutor General on the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja

The Prosecutor General assesses as very serious the event that occurred today in the premises of the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction, Tirana, which, in addition to causing the loss of life of one person and the injury of two others, has at the same time fundamentally violated the functioning of the rule of law.

The Prosecutor General conveys his condolences to the family of Judge Astrit Kalaja and calls on everyone to be aware and contribute to strengthening the security of magistrates in all aspects.

The Prosecutor General has requested the Prosecution Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction, Tirana, to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of the event in cooperation with the State Police./CNA
