Judge Kalaja was murdered in the courtroom/ KLP: Unimaginable act

The High Prosecutorial Council has expressed shock at the reaction to the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja. The reaction states that this serious event has hit the justice system and the entire Albanian society.

It further states that the murder of a magistrate in a courtroom is an unthinkable act, which also constitutes a direct attack on the Constitution, the rule of law, and public security.

Statement of the High Prosecutorial Council: 

The High Prosecutorial Council is deeply shocked by the serious event that struck the justice system and the entire Albanian society today, where the judge of the Court of Appeal, Mr. Astrit Kalaja, was shot dead inside the courtroom, while performing his duties.

The murder of a magistrate in a courtroom is an unthinkable act, which constitutes not only a crime against a representative of justice, but also a direct attack on the Constitution, the rule of law, and public security as a whole.

In these moments of mourning, the High Prosecutorial Council wishes to convey its deepest condolences to the family, relatives and colleagues of Judge Astrit Kalaja, expressing full solidarity with the entire judiciary.

This tragedy reminds us of the necessity of strong institutional unity and shared state responsibility to protect every representative of justice who serves in the name of the law./CNA
