The Chairman of the Laws Committee and former Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, has reacted to the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja in the courtroom. Manja expressed in his post that this is a loss that has shaken justice.

While stating that he worked with him for 5 years, the former minister says that the judge was a family man and a model citizen. Manja condemned the act, which he describes as a direct attack on the Albanian state. He adds that this murder should serve as an alarm bell for the safety of all justice workers in the face of crime.

A defeat that shocks justice!

Today, the hand of crime rose above the black platoon, taking the life of Tirana Court of Appeal judge Astrit Kalaja.

I knew him and worked with him during difficult days for order and security in Shkodra (2002–2007) — he as a judge, I as a prosecutor. Astrit Kalaja was, in the full sense of the word, a family man and model citizen, a judge of high integrity and a responsible statesman.

As a former colleague and Chairman of the Laws Committee, I strongly condemn this barbaric act, which is a direct attack on the Albanian state and justice.

The murder of a judge on duty requires exemplary punishment and should serve as an alarm bell for the safety of all justice workers in the face of crime.

My deepest condolences to the family and many friends that Astrit had everywhere.
