Report to the Committee on Foreign Relations
United States Senate
Country: Republic of Albania
Candidate: Eric Wendt
Retired Lieutenant General Eric Wendt serves as Professor of Practice, teaching Command and Leadership at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). While still in uniform as a three-star general, he was stationed in Europe and served as Commander, NATO Special Operations Headquarters. He commanded all NATO-assigned Special Operations Forces (including Albanian special operations units) and worked in Albania with Defense leaders and soldiers.
Previously, he served for a year in Afghanistan as Deputy Regional Commander, which included overseeing soldiers from Albania. During more than 34 years of active duty, he held numerous senior command positions and led organizations of up to thousands of military, civilian, and interagency personnel. He worked for the U.S. Department of State for two years as an integral part of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, where he led an eight-nation coalition as U.S. Security Coordinator, Israel-Palestinian Authority, reporting directly to the Secretary of State.
His significant leadership experience, proven ability to manage complex multinational and interagency organizations, and his regional expertise throughout Europe make Lieutenant General (Ret.) Wendt well-qualified to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Albania. Lieutenant General (Ret.) Wendt received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master of Arts (MA) degree from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California. He speaks Arabic and Korean. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Service Medal (with one oak leaf cluster), the Bronze Star Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), and the U.S. Department of State’s Superior Honor Award .”/CNA
