Tourism between price and flow/ The number of tourists increases, but their spending decreases

Tourism in Albania continues to record positive figures in terms of arrivals, but this season has highlighted a new dynamic between costs, revenues and expectations.

Official data shows that the flow of foreign visitors has experienced steady growth compared to the previous year, however this is not translating into high profits for all operators in the market.

Faced with rising bills in some popular coastal areas, tourists are becoming more cautious with their spending. They are increasingly choosing daily rental accommodations through online platforms, which offer them flexibility and lower prices.

This has caused concern among traditional hotel structures, which in many cases have reported empty rooms or cancellations of reservations on peak days.

Another phenomenon this year is the profile of the tourist himself and the decline in consumption. A good part of those visiting our country belong to the budget category, as vacationers are turning to fast food, cooking in apartments and shopping in supermarkets to reduce their shopping basket expenses.

On the other hand, a positive geographical shift is being observed. Non-coastal areas, such as agrotourism, historical cities and mountain tourism, are experiencing a strong increase in visitors. These destinations are attracting those vacationers who seek nature and offer a much more stable balance between price and service provided.

Beyond price fluctuations, this entire situation is aggravated by the severe shortage of qualified staff. Businesses are facing difficulties in finding workers, which directly affects the quality of service.

Economic experts warn that if the balance between tariffs and service is not improved, our tourism market risks losing its competitive advantage compared to other countries in the region. /CNA
