A serious incident occurred this afternoon in Maliq, Korça. A mother and son lost their lives from asphyxiation after a fire engulfed their apartment. Meanwhile, the minor girl is also in serious condition.

A neighbor of the family also spoke about the incident, providing details about the cause of the fire.

The neighbor said that the family was economically weak, and said that the minor daughter climbed out of the window and managed to escape.

Meanwhile, the boy and his mother asphyxiated and died inside the apartment.  

"A working-class family, they were economically weak. The children's father worked, she supported the two children, fed them as much as she could. The municipality helped them every month, plus they received food and economic assistance. The girl was smaller than the boy, the boy was walking, the girl didn't move much. The mother didn't take much care of the children. We in the neighborhood would talk to her, tell her "wash, rinse". We would help her, we would take everything to her. It was no one's fault. Both children were autistic.
