Is the embargo broken?/ Tons of Russian oil enter the Port of Durrës

Over 22 thousand tons of Russian oil was seized in the Port of Durrës, the night before.

 "Embargo", the police operation has blocked a ship with a Liberian flag, which was transporting oil, with forged documentation, in order to smuggle it further to Albania.

It is suspected that this oil shipment was taken from countries with an oil embargo, specifically from Russia.

The vessel had departed from Azerbaijan and is alleged to have been loaded with oil at the port of Kallamata, Greece, from another vessel, in the amount of 22,500 tonnes of diesel fuel.

Në Janar të këtij viti 62.000 litra naftë të kontrabanduara, të ardhura nga Libia drejt Durrësit janë sekuestruar nga një operacion i përbashkët me Policinë e Shtetit dhe Guardia di Finanza.

Dy anijet e peshkimit, një shqiptare dhe një libiane “Geni” dhe“ABOBAKR 124”,  janë kapur nga pamjet e Guardia di Finanza duke shkëmbyer naftën e cila do të tregtohej në Shqipëri me çmim më të lirë.

The embargo also prohibits the use of the territory of Albania as a transit for oil produced or traded by companies that are under the blockade imposed by the European Union from June 3, 2022.

The Government's decision is based on the regulation approved by the Council of the European Union for austerity measures against Russia in response to its aggression in Ukraine.

According to this regulation, one-time contracts were not prohibited until December 5, 2022, while long-term contracts signed before June 4 could be implemented until February 5, 2023.

During 2021, Albania imported from Russia 11 percent of the total fuel, or about 75 thousand tons. /CNA.al
