All the details/ Here's what happened today with Veliaj during the 7 hours

This Friday was a marathon day of public plenary hearings at the Constitutional Court against the arrested former mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, which started at 10:00 and ended at 17:00.

Over the course of 7 hours, the Constitutional Court reviewed the appeal of the former mayor arrested on 13 charges and 5 serious criminal offenses, who requested the suspension of President Bajram Begaj's decree on the date of the elections in Tirana.

Veliaj left his cell in Durrës, while being escorted under strict measures by numerous police officers and exited the police van with handcuffs in his hands, to then enter the Constitutional Court.

During the session, the floor was taken several times by Veliaj, Veliaj's lawyers, and the President's representative in the Constitutional Court, Ilir Rusmali.

 

At 5:00 PM, the Constitutional Court announced its withdrawal to issue a decision, after hearing the conclusions of the session.

At around 5:00 PM, the arrested former mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, left the premises of the Constitutional Court to return to his cell in Durrës Prison.

Veliaj is accused of the criminal offenses of corruption, abuse of office, laundering the proceeds of crime, concealing assets, and bringing illegal items into the cell. /CNA
