The Constitutional Court has started today the open session where the lawsuit against the tax law on free professions is being discussed.

For this issue, three lawsuits were filed in the Constitutional Court, where the parties presented their arguments. Currently, the jury has withdrawn to give a decision on the lawsuits.

Meanwhile, outside the premises of the Constitutional Court, representatives of free professions and citizens are holding a protest. 

The new law 'On income tax' from January 2024 foresees tax at 15% and 23% for the self-employed, natural persons and traders of services of free professions.

In total, according to the Ministry of Finance and Economy, up to 29 thousand self-employed businesses will be included in the new tax regime.

After the many debates caused by the incorrect implementation of the law, the tax administration revised down the installments of tax prepayment for free professions.

According to surveys, 23% of freelancers will close their activity or emigrate, while some of them have chosen to transfer their businesses to Kosovo and Estonia./ CNA
