The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has revealed some of the surprises of the New Year's Eve in Tirana.

A concert with the best Albanian artists will take place in the center of Tirana and there will be fireworks. During a television interview, Veliaj underlined that there will be an extraordinary spectacle of fireworks. 

"We will have an incredible fireworks display. The concert starts at 21:00 and several artists will perform. We realized that for the New Year, Tirana is a destination for many foreign tourists, who decide to spend the end of the year in a unique city, so we start the concert a little earlier. At 12.00 we will do the countdown and the fireworks. It will be a real spectacle for children, then the concert will continue until 02.00-03.00 in the morning. Then the work to clean Tirana begins. The 1st of January is the most challenging date for our cleaners who, while people are still chewing on the turkey and getting some sleep, they have to go out as early as 05.00 in the morning. I am really grateful to them because they are the first to clean and fix the city. The invitation we have extended to all citizens is: The spectacle of the City Hall's fireworks goes out to excess. There is no need to explode fireworks because we have spent several good years without incident in Tirana. I would like this to be a good year too. The pyromania to have each one's own 'weapon' must pass us a moment. I am glad that every year Tirana is better. We have hardly heard any checkers this year. The police have done their job. I want to keep it like this even today with the holidays, to make sure that they pass without incident", said Veliaj. /CNA
