The president of the Albanian National Olympic Committee (KOKSH), Fidel Ylli, declared that the government will control online betting.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, Ylli said that every person who wants to bet online will have to put in their identity card and declare where they get the money to play.

"You know that today the bets are open and never closed? How they have closed governments, many times bigger than America, Italy and France. The vice is not closed by laws. I cannot close them, Enver Hoxha did not close them. Will now check them online. For you to play, you will insert your identity card, the face will appear here, it will say how much lek do you get? Where do you find 30 thousand dollars playing? "Economic crime will come and catch," he stressed.

From January 1, 2023, online sports betting will reopen. This is announced in the draft budget of 2023, which foresees the reintroduction of online sports betting into the legislation.

As a result of the law approving 'sports betting' games of chance, with effect from January 1, 2023, it is estimated that 2 billion lek of taxes will be collected in the state budget per year./EuroNews
